I chose the podcast to read information on World Wide Poverty. I receive so much information that I was unable to read it all. However, the information on poverty and how it affects child development and their educational outcomes is a serious issue. It is critical that children receive an education early in the United States as well as other countries.  Many politicians defined poverty as low-income based (2010). As I view poverty across the word it is not only the income, but there are other countries that have many disadvantages, such as: health issues, poor water supply, polluted air and nutritional issues.
According to the Early Childhood Education article (2012), neuroscience research should be forcing a revolution in public education policy. Many scientists and economists believe that early learning is a life changing advantage for future adults.  Joseph Sparling, an honorary fellow in education at the University of Melbourne has declared that waiting until the year before children start school to introduce structured learning is "neglect" (2012). Children starting a high quality child care at an early age are the politician’s plans to reduced poverty and save them from lifetime failures.
As a result of reading the assign articles, I learn a great deal of information that I will apply to educating children and families.

  1. Poverty seems to be a main issue affecting children here in the US and throughout the world. I agree that providing a good start early in life is an essential first step in creating a better future for these children. It is essential that politicians realize this and invest in programs that will give children and families in poverty the support they need. There is so much evidence pointing to the benefits early experiences on later development especially for disadvantaged children that it is time we acted on it.

  2. Having read your information, I was curious if Joseph Sparling indicated what kind of structured learning he thinks is appropriate for children prior to entering formal education . I definitely agree with early childhood centers, pre k, head start and the like, but I think that there is so much expected of children once they enter kindergarten, that any structured learning prior to that would kind of put pressure on students and could possibly make them some what resistant. The early years should be play based and child centered.
